ADULT GREEK CLASSES
The Institute of Greek Language and Culture, under the Auspices of the Greek Orthodox Church / Department of Education, offers Adult classes in Modern Greek. This two year program employs innovative learning methods to provide residents of the Chicago Metropolitan area an opportunity to learn conversational Modern Greek in a simple and easy way by.
This is a two-year program that offers six courses of Modern Greek, starting with two beggining courses (101 and 102), two intermediate courses (103 and 104), and two semi-advanced courses (105 and 106). Students who will study in this program will gain basic fluency in the language. For those students who wish to continue with their studies in Greek beyond the two-year program, third and fourth year advanced courses are offered (200 and 300 level). These courses will enable students to develop their language skills to a level of higher fluency.
Each academic year has three sessions: Fall, winter and spring. Classes meet once a week for the three ten-week sessions from 7 pm to 9pm. This is also a preparatory program for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek (level A B C & D) as well as the State of Illinois Bilingual Certificate. Attendance is mandatory.

The Greek School, a must for every Greek Orthodox parish, is the vehicle that creates the Greek identity in the minds and the souls of our children and is important for the existence of the Greek Orthodox Church. The purpose of the Pythagoras Greek School is to promote Greek language, the Hellenic culture and our Greek Orthodox Heritage. Our goal is to create a feeling of love for the Greek civilization and most importantly, to generate a sense of pride for our religion and heritage.
Classes range from pre-kindergarten through high school and take place twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (only Mondays for high school).
Students are taught reading, writing and speaking Greek as well as religion, mythology, and history. Each grade level has its own teacher to ensure that all students realize exceptional progress throughout the school year. Our teachers have many years of teaching experience in Greek parochial schools and are highly qualified to teach Greek as a second language.
Pythagoras Greek School is recognized by the Department of Education of Greece. We also offer special classes for those interested in attaining a Certificate in Greek Language every Monday from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m.
We also have a very active and supportive Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) that assists us with wonderful programs during Chirstmas, Greek Independence Day and Graduation.
