His
Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios of America
His Eminence
Archbishop Demetrios has labored together with the Hierarchs, clergy,
and laity of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in an intense effort
to strengthen conditions of unity and peace and to advance administrative
and ecclesiastical stability of the work of the Church
in America.
His Archpastoral message has been one that has called for unity,
genuine relationships, and an ever-increasing commitment to God
and to service in the name of Christ. This is essential, he has
affirmed, not only as a witness to the guiding presence of the Holy
Spirit, but also as a presupposition for growth and development.

Rev.
Panagiotis K. Malamis
Ieratikos Proestaminos
Born in Sigouni, Kalavrita, in Greece, Father Malamis dreamed of
being a priest as a small child. After completing his early schooling
in Greece, Father Malamis emigrated to Canada in 1962 where he met
and married Presbytera Theodora (Hamakioti), also from Kalavrita
(Tourlada). In 1966, Father went to Holy Cross Theological School
in Boston and was ordained a deacon in 1968 and priest in 1969 by
Bishop Demetrios of Olymbou.
Father then
came to Chicago where he served as assistant priest at Assumption
Greek Orthodox church from 1968 to 1971 and at St. Demetrios in
Chicago until 1974. In 1974 he received his Bachelor of Arts from
Governor State University and was finally assigned to our parish
of St. Demetrios in Elmhurst.
In
1985, Metropolitan (then Bishop) Iakovos of Chicago bestowed the
honor of "ofikion tou oikonomou" upon Father Malamis.
On Father Malamis' 25th anniversary in the priesthood at Holy Cross
Theological School, Archbishop Iakovos of New York bestowed upon
Father the the highest honor a married priest can achieve, that
of "ofikion tou protopresbyterou".
Throughout the
years, the Lord has blessed Father Malamis and Presbytera Theodora
with a loving family including 3 daughters, 6 sons and 6 grandchildren.
One of
his sons is even studying to become a priest. Father has worked
unceasingly with parish council members, our faithful parishioners,
community members and others to oversee the growth of our parish.
(Learn about our parish on our History
page.) He not only supervised the building of our church, school,
community center and two chapels, but he continues to promote our
faith throughout Chicagoland.
Father Malamis
encourages you to contact him directly at 630-530-2054
for information about our faith or with your personal questions
or spiritual needs.
